History Of Windmills

Windmills Shopping Centre

The shopping centre was build on the Smethwick Market site, and at the height of its success was one of the busiest markets in the country…

As one of the biggest markets in the country it had a long waiting list of stallholders. During construction of Windmills Shopping centre, an underground nuclear shelter was discovered built in the 50’s, this was missed when the site was being surveyed as it was lead lined. It has now been capped off, so was the Titford feeder which runs from Rotton Park reservoir to Tat Bank Oldbury. It was built by Thomas Telford in 1832 when he made improvements to canal works originally built by James Brindley.
